Please help us put the community in the SMLC Community Organic Garden! Help turn the compost pile, spread wood chips on the garden pathways, check gates and fences for repairs or stake plot boundaries. And much more! - This workday will include building some children's garden boxes.

Sat. May. 19, 9:00am-11:00am: Garden Kick-Off w/Breakfast

Let's start the garden season off with a lovely breakfast and a time to learn a little bit more about the Community Organic Garden. This event is for new and returning gardeners. Questions that will be discused: What is organic? What does SMLC stand for? Who is on the Garden Committee? What are those big piles of rotting vegetation and manure for? Where is the kiosk? What is a kiosk for? All these questions, and many more, will be answered at our kick-off get-together! We'll give you a brief history of SMLC, go over our garden rules and guidelines (some of which have changed from previous years), cover some information to help you garden organically, and answer any questions that you may have. Join us and get to know your fellow gardeners!

Wed. October 31: Prep-Your-Plot-for-Winter Deadline

Per the garden rules and guidelines - Remove all your spent vegetable plants from that
season. Compost all debris, including weeds and spent fruit and vegetable plants. Put all
corn & sunflower stalks in the burn pile not in the bins. Fall is a good time to add a layer of
compost to your plot and/or plant cover crops.
