Charitable gifts to the Southeast Michigan Land Conservancy are critical to furthering our mission of protecting land in southeast Michigan. Tax-deductable donations are used to fund new land protection projects, to support the care and maintenance of our nature preserves, to educate the community about the importance of land conservation, and to help build our Endowment Fund, so we can all rest assured that the land we save will be protected forever. Donating land for conservation purposes is truly one of the finest legacies a person can leave to future generations. It may be the best conservation strategy for you if you do not wish to pass the land on to heirs; own property you no longer use; own highly appreciated property; have substantial real estate holdings and wish to reduce estate tax burdens; or would like to be relieved of the responsibility of managing and caring for land. From lawn mowers to bottled water, the Conservancy benefits from non-cash gifts from our supporters. These gifts help minimize our day-to-day expenses, so we have more resources for large mission-driven projects. Right now, for example, we could use the following items for our spring and summer stewardship projects:
1) modern commercial lawn mower in good working order for mowing preserve trails (retail cost $10,000)
) heavy duty rototiller in good working order for SMLC community organic garden program (retail cost $2,000)
) modern laptop computer in good working order, with Windows XP or newer (retail cost $1,000)
) 8x10 or 10x12 foot living room rug - excellent condition, keeping with historic character of the farm house; please no stirpes; this is a meeting space for the Conservancy; call for details (retail cost $300+)
) Heavy duty work gloves in all sizes (20 pair)
) Brush loppers, preferably with replacable blades (retail cost $25)
) Brush saws with replacable blades (retail cost $15)
) Predator Guards for bluebird nest boxes (retail cost @ 7)
9) Single serving bottled water for thirsty volunteers (Many!)
