Who we are

Superior Land Conservancy (SLC) is a volunteer-run organization made up of local residents dedicated to preserving the natural and rural character of Superior Township, Washtenaw County, Michigan. SLC is neither a political or governmental organization, nor are we adversarial in nature. SLC members care deeply about land preservation in their community, and have first-hand knowledge of the local resources and opportunities. We strive to work cooperatively with all parties to ensure a balanced future for our Township.

SLC operates as a local division of the Southeast Michigan Land Conservancy, a 501(c)(3) charitable organization which serves the entire seven county southeast Michigan region. With the help of SLC, Southeast Michigan Land Conservancy has made Superior Township a focal point of efforts in the region. From a regional perspective, Superior Township is highly important in that it contains much of the last significant open space between Detroit and Ann Arbor. The home office of the Southeast Michigan Land Conservancy is now located in Superior Township at the Conservancy Farm. Together we work with many local and regional land conservancies as well as the Land Trust Alliance which serves over 1200 land trust organizations across the country.

As of 2007, SLC has been instrumental in protecting 1,361 acres in Superior Township, including 774 acres which were donated or purchased for nature preserves and 587 acres which have been protected with conservation easements. Since it's formation in 1991, Superior Land Conservancy has demonstrated that local residents can make a difference in raising awareness about the importance of land conservation and maintaining the quality of life in their community. The SLC Division Council meets on the third Tuesday of each month at the Conservancy Farm. Interested members and guests should call ahead to confirm the time and location of the meeting. Call Marion Morris (734-484-7414) for more information.
